Learn How to Play Blackjack Effectively

Blackjack is always a favorite game of gamblers because of the odds it represents. It can even be made better if players know how to utilize strategies such as card counting and shuffle tracking. Choosing the right blackjack variant can also help you improve the odds in your favor.

If you’re new to blackjack but you would like a crash course on the game and learn how to play effectively at the same time, this is the article for you. By the time you’re done reading the article, you’ll not only know how to play the game but you’ll also know how to play blackjack like a reasonably skilled player and not like the novice you truly are.

Are you ready?

Blackjack has similar rules with baccarat but rather than aiming for 9, you’re aiming for 21 in blackjack. Tens and face cards are counted the same. The rest correspond to their face value. Blackjack players are allowed to draw up to three additional cards to improve their hand. Beware however of drawing the maximum number cards because you could end up getting a busted hand – or cards with a total exceeding 21. Players with busted hands immediately lose their bets.

For novice players, positioning in the blackjack table will not generally affect the outcome of your game unless you already know how to use advanced strategies like card counting and shuffle tracking.

Splitting

When your first two cards make a pair, you are allowed to split them into two hands. There are really no significant odds on splitting cards so that’s probably why casinos only require you to place equal bets on each hand. If you draw a card and you end up with yet another pair, not all blackjack tables will allow you to split for the second time.

Doubling Down

Blackjack allows you to double your bet then just draw one more card to further improve your hand. Some blackjack variants however only restrict double down bets on cards totaling 9 and 11.

Insurance

When the blackjack reveals that he has an ace hidden in his sleeve – or rather, ion the table, some blackjack tables allow players to take insurance. When the dealer ends up with blackjack, you win 2:1. If he doesn’t, you lose automatically. Most experts however do not encourage players to take insurance bets since it’s like betting against yourself.

Surrender

This is not an option that is often allowed in blackjack tables. Surrender allows you to only lose half of your bet if you believe your cards amount to nothing.
